Yaoundé, Cameroon – Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo, visited military stands and units representing various departments of the Cameroonian defense forces on Monday, May 19, 2025. This visit followed the closing ceremony of the military open house, which was held at Air Base 101 in Yaoundé.

The open house, a prelude to the National Unity Day celebrations, allowed the public to interact with military personnel and view equipment. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the event aimed to strengthen the bond between the defense forces and the nation. Minister Assomo emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong civil-military relationship. He lauded the dedication of the armed forces in protecting the country's sovereignty and ensuring peace and security.

The National Unity Day, celebrated annually on May 20th, commemorates the unification of Cameroon in 1972. This year’s theme, “Defense Forces and the Cameroonian People, in symbiosis for the preservation of Peace and National Unity, the foundation of a strong and prosperous Cameroon,” underscores the importance of national cohesion and the role of the military in safeguarding the nation. The day is marked by military and civilian parades, cultural events, and speeches promoting national unity and patriotism.

The visit and the open house event serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen the Cameroonian defense forces.
